Palestrina represents the high point of late Renaissance church music. The humanist principles of clarity and balance, seasoned with a highly disciplined use of dissonance, mark virtually every piece of his vast output. His third setting of the Magnificat in Mode 8 has become a favorite of the Schola, and it appears on our first CD.
