Featured composers are Palestrina and Navarro. The monks will offer traditional Gregorian chant.
St. John the Baptist appears prominently in the icon triptych above the altar of our church. This traditional arrangement is a reminder of the important role he plays in salvation history. The proliferation of musical compositions in his honor is a similar indication. The hymn Ut queant laxis, was used by the eleventh-century Benedictine monk Guido d’Arrezzo as the basis of the “solfege” system of musical pedagogy (Do-re-mi…), still in common use today.
