Featured composers are Franco and Gallus. The monks will offer traditional Gregorian chant.
Jacobus Gallus (also known as “Handl”) was born in Slovenia and educated by Cistercian monks. His voluminous output covers every celebration of the Church year and demonstrates strikingly forward-looking style, anticipating the early Baroque styles of Monteverdi and Gabrieli. Palestrina’s eccentric Vir erat, setting the opening words of the book of Job, is taken from his complete settings of the Offertory texts of the liturgical year.
