Featured composers are Byrd and Navarro. The monks will offer traditional Gregorian chant.
William Byrd ranks among the greatest English composers. A direct contemporary of Shakespeare, Byrd retired from public life in protest of the harsh treatment of Catholic priests, particularly the infamous execution of St. Edmund Campion. In his seclusion, he embarked on a setting of the texts of the major feasts of the liturgical year. His adherence to Catholicism did not prevent him from also being one of the originators of the liturgical style of the Church of England.
