Solemn Vespers for the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Gospel of the Prodigal Son
The opening date of our eleventh season of Solemn Vespers includes two recent compositions. The first, the hymn setting O Lux, beata Trinitas is the most recent composition by our artistic director and the community’s superior, Prior Peter Funk. It was premiered a year ago and received such a positive response that we programmed it again this year. The second recent composition is by conductor Kevin Allen and is the closing motet, Santificavit Moyses, the text taken from the Offertory of this Sunday’s Mass. In addition, our choir-in-residence, Schola Laudis, will sing the motet Jubilate Deo by early 17th century composer Adriano Banchieri, and a rarely performed setting of the Magnificat by one of the greatest Mexican church composers, Manuel de Sumaya.
We welcome all to join us for this beautiful and meditative celebration of the Church’s liturgy in the world-class acoustic space of the Monastery on Saturday, September 10, at 5:15 p.m.
