Featured composers are Willaert and Sweelinck. The monks will offer traditional Gregorian chant.
In this liturgy, we highlight the development of Renaissance composition. The elaborate, dense “seamless polyphony” of the late medieval master Willaert gives way to the humanist clarity of Lassus and Palestrina in the high Renaissance. The rhythmic vigor of Sweelinck represents a bridge to the Baroque achievements of Bach and Handel. The liturgy itself is a bridge between the mystery of the Resurrection and that of Pentecost.
Hymn: Ad cena Agni provide—Lassus
Magnificat: Mode 8g—Palestrina
Postlude/Procession: Cantate Domino—Sweelinck
