Saint Benedict’s Rule, the source and guide for our monastic life, says, “Let all guests who arrive be received like Christ.”
Centuries before the advent of hoteliers in Europe, Benedictine monks offered warmth and hospitality to travelers and pilgrims who came to their door. This spirit lives on in Chicago.
We welcome all who desire to experience the peaceful, prayerful atmosphere of our monastery. Individual guests may reserve a room, and families or other groups may reserve an entire apartment. Each of our three apartments has a private entrance, several bedrooms and its own full kitchen or kitchenette, bathroom, dining room, and living room. Free off-street parking is available to all guests.
Accommodations are available seven days a week. For those seeking to share more fully in our monastic solitude and silence, we offer self-directed retreat from Tuesday through Sunday of each week. Retreatants stay in accommodations reserved for that purpose and join the monks daily for two silent meals in the monastery’s refectory (dining room).

Free-will offerings: We do not require payment for staying in the Guesthouse. For those who wish to make a free-will offering, we recommend $40 per night for retreats and $60 per night (individuals) or $100 per night (families or groups) for other stays. The generosity of guests who choose to offer more than the recommended amount helps us to cover the expenses of caring for our Guesthouse and providing accommodations to all regardless of their current ability to contribute. No one is ever turned away because of a lack of means.
